NYCHA has updated and reissued A Home to Be Proud Of, the handbook provided to new residents. And while it is targeted for new residents so they can learn all about living in a NYCHA apartment, it also can serve as a great reference guide for existing residents. It is filled with information on dozens of topics, including what to do if you’re locked out; the pet policy; the many different ways you can pay rent; how to handle mold; community programs; and contact information.
A Home to Be Proud Of is available as a pdf on NYCHA’s website at http://on.nyc.gov/nychapub. It is written in plain language, and has a search feature that allows you to search by word.
To continue its efforts to go green and better make use of resources, NYCHA is not printing the handbook. The previous version had 200,000 copies printed at a cost of $145,000; by keeping the handbook only digital, NYCHA saves paper and money.
