The word \u201cTanakh\u201d is an acronym of its three parts: Torah (The Five Books of Moses), Nevi\u2019im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings). It contains stories, law, poetry, and teachings about God and humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are <strong>39 books <\/strong>in the <strong>Old Testament<\/strong>, starting with Genesis and ending with Malachi. They\u2019re arranged according to the subject matter in one long list. <strong>Tanakh<\/strong>, on the other hand, contains only <strong>24 books<\/strong>. Hebrew and Christian Bibles differ in number because 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel are combined into Samuel. The same goes for King 1 and 2 and the Chronicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tanakh is in the Hebrew language, while the Old Testament exists in various languages, mostly translated from Tanakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanareas.net\/info\/bible-overview-description-book\/\">Click here<\/a> for more information on the Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Torah <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Torah is the combination of the first five books of the Tanakh.  The Torah is also known as the Five Books of Moses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>GENESIS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creation, the beginning of mankind, and stories of the patriarchs and matriarchs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EXODUS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Israelites\u2019 enslavement in Egypt, miraculous redemption, the giving of the Torah, and building of the Mishkan (Tabernacle).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LEVITICUS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laws of sacrificial worship in the Mishkan (Tabernacle), ritual purity, and other topics like agriculture, ethics, and holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NUMBERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wanderings of the Israelites in the desert, census, rebellion, spies and war, interspersed with laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DEUTERONOMY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moses\u2019 final speeches, recalling events of the desert, reviewing old laws, introducing new ones, and calling for faithfulness to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nevi\u2019im \/ The Prophets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are eight books in the Nevi*im: Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings in the Former Prophets; Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel in the Latter Prophets; and the Twelve Prophets in the Latter Prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Zephaniah, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JOSHUA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Israelites enter, conquer, and settle Israel under the leadership of Joshua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JUDGES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cycles of sin, foreign oppression, repentance, and redemption through leaders appointed by God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I SAMUEL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prophet Samuel, the advent of monarchy with the reign of Saul, and the rise of a young David.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>II SAMUEL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">King David\u2019s triumphs and challenges as he establishes a united kingdom with Jerusalem as its capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I KINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solomon\u2019s kingship, construction of the Temple, a schism in the kingdom, and Elijah the Prophet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>II KINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stories and miracles of the prophet Elisha, the decline of Israel\u2019s kingdoms, and the Temple\u2019s destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ISAIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Criticism of religious corruption, calls for change, and descriptions of a utopian future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JEREMIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Warnings of Jerusalem\u2019s destruction and demands for repentance, largely rejected by the people, some of whom torture and persecute him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EZEKIEL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dramatic symbolism conveying rebuke or hope, and visions of a future Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HOSEA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rebuke of Israel for abandoning God, comparing their relationship to that of unfaithful lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JOEL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A locust plague, a call to repent, and a promise of judgement for Israel\u2019s oppressors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AMOS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Condemnation of oppression and arrogance in the nations and Israel, and a call for reform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>OBADIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shortest book in Tanakh, at just 21 verses, predicting the downfall of the kingdom of Edom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>JONAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A great fish swallows Jonah when he tries to escape his mission of prophecy, and Jonah repents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MICAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Berating of Israel and its leadership for insincere ritual worship, and calls for justice and kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NAHUM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A celebratory prophecy about the downfall of the Assyrian empire, an oppressor of Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HABAKKUK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charging God to explain the unjust success of the Babylonians, God\u2019s response, and a prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ZEPHANIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Warnings of the destruction God will wreck on the unfaithful and calls for justice and humility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HAGGAI<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Urgent calls to build the Second Temple and descriptions of its future glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ZECHARIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Symbolic visions of redemption, explained by known as the \u201cFive Megillot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PSALMS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poems of despair, hope, gratitude, and supplication to God, attributed to David and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PROVERBS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guidance for living a wise,
