In this video, I’ll answer the question – Who was Emmett Till? The name, Emmett Till, resonates with a lot of Americans. In particular, it evokes strong emotions within the African-American community, which continues to feel shock and horror at the sheer injustice of what happened to this innocent boy.

Born on July 25, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Emmett Till was the son of a United States Army private and an Air Force clerk. He never knew his father, though, and was single-handedly raised by his mother, Mamie.

In 1955, 14-year-old Emmett accompanied his Great-Uncle Moses Wright to Money, Mississippi, where a few of their relatives lived. On the afternoon of August 24, he entered a local grocery store with a group of teenagers to buy refreshments after a long day picking cotton under the scorching sun.
