Call 911 For Emergencies
The Sixth Precinct encompasses the southern Manhattan neighborhoods of Greenwich Village and the West Village. Its areas of interest include Christopher Street, Washington Square Park and Broadway. In the west, its narrow, tree-lined streets follow the city’s original horse paths. At the command’s northern border lie the High Line Park and the Meatpacking District, the city’s premiere nightlife destination. The precinct consists of vibrant and diverse residential and commercial districts frequently portrayed in television and movies, and is home to New York University and The New School University. The precinct is also one of the nation’s focal points for the LGBT rights movement, both historically and at present. Its western border is the Hudson River, and the West Side Highway usually provides the fastest access to the area for drivers coming to the area from elsewhere.
