Call 911 For Emergencies
The 60th Precinct consists of an area of approximately two thousand one hundred and fifteen (2115) acres, or 3.4 square miles, of which three hundred and sixteen (316) acres are classified as parkland. There are ten (10) New York City Housing Projects located within the command. The command can be separated into five (5) distinct communities. Sea Gate – a privately owned, enclosed residential area with its own Police Force. Coney Island – a neighborhood of high rise apartment buildings and projects. Some are private and some are rent subsidized and under the jurisdiction of the New York City Housing Authority. A number of town houses were built in the west end of Coney Island by the Astella Corporation, increasing the police services needed in that area. The Coney Island area also contains an Amusement and Beach Area, which calls for additional police services during the summer months. Brighton Beach – an area comprised mostly of older apartment dwellings, one and two family private residences. Brighton Beach has the largest population of Russian immigrants in the United States. This neighborhood also includes the Brighton Beach shopping area, beaches, boardwalk, all of which are heavily utilized on a year-round basis by the senior citizens who reside in this area, as well as visitors during the summer months. West Brighton Beach – A neighborhood created when a hi-rise community was built in the early nineteen sixties. Ocean Parkway to Stillwell Avenue is comprised of Mitchell-Lame hi-rise housing, co-ops, and straight rentals. The community was built with government funding and guidelines for the purpose of keeping the middle class-income families in the city. Bensonhurst – This neighborhood consists largely of one and two family houses. The Marlboro Projects are also located in this area. This is a City owned project.
