The Supreme Court is the trial court of unlimited original jurisdiction; but it generally hears cases that are outside the jurisdiction of other trial courts of more limited jurisdiction. In New York City, the Court exercises civil jurisdiction and jurisdiction over felony cases (in which a sentence in excess of one year may be imposed).
The courthouse is one of the newest in New York State and is the most technologically advanced site in the court system. The courthouse is home to more than 30 judges and 500 court employees committed to the fair administration of justice.
